The San Francisco 49ers were apparently in the mix for Odell Beckham Jr. before the receiver was sent to the Cleveland Browns earlier this month.

However, 49ers general manager John Lynch said the asking price by the New York Giants made it tough for the two parties to agree to a deal.

"I think, ironically, the fact that we had the No. 2 pick made it more difficult because they wanted that badly," Lynch said Friday on KNBR Radio, according to The Athletic's Matt Barrows. "They wanted two No. 1s. And we weren't willing to part with that. It was too valuable of a pick."

The 49ers were reportedly open to moving from the second pick to the No. 6 overall selection, which is currently held by the Giants, but talks broke down when the teams couldn't resolve what or who else would be included in the trade, according to NFL Networks' Mike Garafolo.

New York eventually dealt Beckham to the Browns for safety Jabrill Peppers, the No. 17 overall pick, and a third-rounder.

Lynch said he wasn't very interested in acquiring Antonio Brown from the Pittsburgh Steelers before the receiver was traded to the Oakland Raiders.

"We took a quick look and then we just said, 'Hey, we're not interested in that for our team.' That's where we are," Lynch said. "I think we feel pretty good about our receiving corps. I know a lot of people don't share our sentiments."

The 49ers declined the player option for receiver Pierre Garcon this offseason, making him a free agent. They also signed Jordan Matthews to a one-year deal.
