Dolphins owner Ross 'committed' to rebuild

The Miami Dolphins have insisted they aren't tanking in 2019, but owner Stephen Ross admitted his team will undergo a major rebuild.

"I'm looking at it now to do it the way I've built every business, and build it from the ground up," Ross said, according to NFL.com's Jeremy Bergman. "I'm prepared to stay with it. I am committed."

Miami certainly experienced a number of roster changes this offseason, losing key veterans in Robert Quinn, Cameron Wake, Ja'Wuan James, Frank Gore, and long-time starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

The Dolphins signed Ryan Fitzpatrick to potentially start in 2019, but currently lack long-term direction at the game's most important position, as well as other key spots.

Ross claims the team has a plan, but is unsure of a timeline for completion.

"I would love for it to be two years. But you have to be realistic," Ross said of the attempted rebuild. "Hopefully, we make the right decisions. We have a good, young nucleus to start with. It's not like we're starting all over again. We have great players.

"We are a young team, but there are positions we need to get better at. You're not going to go buy those positions. You've got to draft and build them and grow them."

Miami finished 7-9 in 2018, good for second place in the AFC East. The Dolphins have made just one playoff appearance over the last 10 seasons.
