In January, the Oakland Athletics offered two-sport athlete Kyler Murray a contract worth $14 million in guaranteed cash, in addition to his signing bonus, to choose baseball, a source told Robert Klemko of Sports Illustrated.

If Murray had taken the deal, he also would have been added to Oakland's 40-man roster.

However, the Oklahoma product - who plays outfield but also won the Heisman Trophy as a quarterback last season - publicly spurned the A's in February while committing to professional football.

Murray was selected ninth overall by the A's in the 2018 MLB Draft. Now, he may wind up being the first name off the board in the upcoming NFL draft, while various mocks have him going anywhere in the first half of the first round.

Based on his commitment to football, Murray must also repay Oakland $1.29 million of the $1.5-million signing bonus he was given after being drafted, and forfeited the remaining $3.16 million in bonus money he was set to receive on March 1. The A's did not say whether Murray's bonus money has been returned, according to Klemko.
