Russell Wilson: 'I want to be a Seahawk for life'
Russell Wilson signed a new four-year extension with the Seattle Seahawks this week, but he plans to remain with the team much longer than that.
"I want to be a Seahawk for life," the quarterback said at a press conference Wednesday.
"The guys that I've always admired in sports, the guys that played at those locations for 15-20 years. Guys like Derek Jeter. I want to be like that. I want to be remembered in that sense."
Wilson instituted an April 15 deadline to get a new deal done so he could focus solely on football. He said his agent informed him at 11:15 p.m. on Monday that it was safe to go to sleep, only to receive a phone call at 11:52 p.m. confirming the deal was done.
The Seahawks had no problem honoring their franchise quarterback's request for a no-trade clause.
"We want him to be here for life," general manager John Schneider said.
