Next wave of free agency expected after Tuesday's comp-pick deadline

The NFL draft is in the rear-view mirror, and the last big wave of free-agent signings could be just around the corner.

After Tuesday's deadline at 11:59 p.m. ET, teams will be able to ink players on the open market without those additions counting against the 2020 compensatory draft pick formula.

The NFL awards compensatory picks (no higher than the third round and up to a maximum of four selections) to teams "that lose more, or better, compensatory free agents than they have acquired in the previous year."

While the exact formula is secret, it's primarily focused on the yearly value of contracts, with playing time and postseason honors also considered factors.

It's been widely assumed that the likes of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, pass-rusher Ezekiel Ansah, safety Eric Berry, running back Jay Ajayi, and linebacker Jamie Collins have been waiting for the deadline to pass in order to generate a more competitive market for their services.

Ansah is working back from shoulder surgery but is expected to be ready sometime during training camp.
