Report: Dolphins make Xavien Howard highest-paid CB with $76.5M deal
Xavien Howard is about to be the highest-paid cornerback in football.
The Miami Dolphins are signing the three-year pro to a five-year, $76.5-million extension that will eclipse the $75-million deal Josh Norman signed with the Washington Redskins in 2016, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. The deal includes $46 million guaranteed, Schefter adds.
Howard was scheduled to play the 2019 season on the last year of his rookie contract.
The 2016 second-round pick has made a star turn in short order. He's recorded 11 interceptions and emerged as a lockdown corner in just 28 games over the past two seasons.
The Dolphins parted ways with a number of veterans this offseason in anticipation of a stark rebuild. Howard's new deal ensures the 25-year-old will remain with the team through the overhaul.
