Court denies Buccaneers' request for $19.5M in damages from BP oil spill

A federal appeals court upheld a district court's ruling that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren't entitled to damages from BP for the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, according to The Associated Press.

The Buccaneers had sought $19.5 million in damages from BP, arguing the spill caused a dip in team revenues.

The court determined the team's revenues during the period of the spill, from May-June 2010, weren't significantly lower than the figures during the same span from a year later. The Buccaneers needed to show that their revenues rebounded by at least 10 percent in 2011 to qualify for damages.

Raymond James Stadium, home of the Buccaneers, is located roughly 360 miles from the site of the oil spill.
