Eagles' Lurie regrets giving Chip Kelly full authority

Jeffrey Lurie is the proud owner of a Lombardi Trophy, but he admits he's made his share of mistakes during his 25 years as owner of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Lurie spoke of both his successes and failures with Sheil Kapadia of The Athletic and admitted there's one move in particular he'd like to have back: giving former head coach Chip Kelly personnel control in 2014.

"I don't regret the hiring of him because it was done with a really good thought process. But, yes, I would say I regret giving him the kind of authority I gave him, yeah. That's an easy one," Lurie said.

Lurie hired Kelly out of the University of Oregon and watched as the offensive whiz put together back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2013 and 2014. Kelly was then given authority over the personnel department, reducing the role of general manager Howie Roseman. He subsequently traded LeSean McCoy and Nick Foles and released Jeremy Maclin prior to the 2015 campaign. Kelly had released DeSean Jackson the prior offseason.

Kelly was fired in Week 16 of the 2015 season, in which the Eagles finished 7-9.
