Safety Eric Weddle is suiting up for his third team as he enters his 13th season in the NFL.

The Los Angeles Rams signed Weddle earlier this offseason, and the six-time Pro Bowler is excited to join one of the league's best secondaries led by corners Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters.

"Those guys are super, super smart," Weddle said of the cornerbacks on "NFL Total Access" on Friday. "The instincts are off the charts. Playmaking ability. ... Those two are the best I've ever played with in my career. Guys that play with vision, play the ball, understand routes, trust the safety that is going to alert them and put them in a position to make plays knowing that I have their backs.

"I'm extremely excited to get on the field with them, give them those live reps, live-game atmosphere, and take this secondary to the next level."

Weddle, Talib, and Peters together hold 13 Pro Bowl and four All-Pro selections. The trio will anchor the secondary, but the former Baltimore Ravens safety acknowledged star pass-rusher Aaron Donald's importance to the defense.

"We have a chance to be special on defense with the pieces that we have," Weddle said. "Obviously, starting with A.D. Obviously, one of the best players in the NFL at all positions and now being able to scheme up and do things that help him to give him an advantage even more so, to let him wreak havoc. He's an amazing talent, an amazing person, the way he works every day. There's a reason he's the best player in the league."

Under defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, the reigning NFC champs finished third in takeaways last season, grabbing 18 interceptions and 12 fumbles.

Weddle, who posted 68 tackles, one sack, and three pass breakups last year, was also excited about joining a pass-heavy division and going against NFC West rivals Russell Wilson, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Kyler Murray.

"The teams that like to air it out a little more than others - that's just more opportunity to make some plays and make some picks," he said. "I'm excited to get in this division."
