Former Tennessee Titans linebacker Derrick Morgan announced his retirement on Monday.

"My purpose in life is bigger than the game," Morgan told ESPN's Turron Davenport. "What football taught me was the power of influence. My goal is to create better and more meaningful opportunities for marginalized communities to break the cycles of generational poverty and build greater wealth and economic mobility."

Morgan, who was a free agent this offseason, spent all nine years of his playing career in Tennessee. The club selected him 16th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft.

The 30-year-old ends his career with 44.5 sacks and 306 total tackles. His sack total places him sixth in franchise history.

Morgan is the second Titans linebacker to retire this offseason as Brian Orakpo decided to end his career in December.
