The Houston Texans and pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney aren't expected to reach a long-term deal before Monday's deadline for franchise-tagged players to do so, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Without an agreement, Clowney would play the 2019 season on a one-year tender worth $15.9 million.

Earlier this offseason, it was reported that Clowney and the Texans were far from an agreement. They apparently haven't gotten much closer despite front-office changes in Houston, which included the firing of general manager Brian Gaine.

Clowney, the No. 1 overall pick in 2014, totaled 47 tackles, nine sacks, and three fumble recoveries during 2018.
