An extension for Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon isn't coming soon, as the team is "dug in" on its stance, sources told Yahoo's Charles Robinson.

Gordon's threat to sit out into the regular season and request a trade if a new deal isn't made by Week 1 could be tested, Robinson adds.

The 26-year-old is heading into the last season of his rookie contract on a fifth-year option worth $5.6 million.

Gordon is reportedly seeking a deal aligned with Todd Gurley and Le'Veon Bell, the highest-paid running backs who earn average annual salaries of $14.38 million and $13.13 million, respectively.

The two-time Pro Bowler previously stated his desire to stay in Los Angeles, but only if the two sides reach a respectable agreement.

"Just because we're going through contract issues right now doesn't mean I want to get traded," he said. "I love being a Charger. I don't want them to feel like I don't want to be there."
