In June 2017, local health departments asked the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) to provide health information and guidance regarding 2,3,3,3,-tetrafluoro-2-(1,1,2,2,3,3,3-heptafluoropropoxy)-propanoate (GenX) and other per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) that had been detected in the Cape Fear River, an important drinking water source (1).
