Prescott, Cooper shrug off contract concerns with camp underway
The Dallas Cowboys may be missing one member of their star-studded triplet at training camp due to a contract dispute, but the two others that are there aren't worrying about their own negotiations.
Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper are both entering contract years and are looking for new deals. But with Ezekiel Elliott's absence from camp drawing the Cowboys' attention, Prescott said he's just focusing on getting ready for the upcoming campaign.
"It will happen when it happens," Prescott said after Saturday's training camp practice, according to ESPN's Todd Archer. "I know I'll be better by the time the regular season starts. That's my focus."
Cooper echoed his quarterback, saying he was "indifferent" to talks with Dallas.
"I guess I'm just optimistic about it and it's something that's going to happen, whether it's today, tomorrow, or whenever," Cooper said. "I'm not worried about me getting hurt or something like that and it not happening. I just don't think like that."
The receiver is set to earn $13.9 million under the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, while Prescott continues to be one of the NFL's biggest bargains with a $2.02-million salary.
Prescott opted not to go into detail about Elliott's decision to stay away from camp but said he had no concerns about his backfield partner being ready for the season.
"We're not worried about him because we know wherever he is, he's doing the right things the right way and he's getting himself ready," the fourth-year passer said, according to Rob Phillips of the Cowboys' official site.
"He's probably running the same drills that GB (running backs coach Gary Brown) would have him going through. He's a professional."
