An MRI showed that Cincinnati Bengals wideout A.J. Green has torn ligaments in his left ankle, which will likely sideline him for six-to-eight weeks, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The veteran suffered the injury on Saturday at practice. He was carted off the field and was later seen leaving the facility on crutches.

Green will get a second opinion on his ankle, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, who added that the star receiver will opt against surgery until additional information is gathered.

The Bengals were practicing at the University of Dayton's Welcome Stadium as part of the NFL's 100th-anniversary celebration, and field conditions were subpar, Schefter added.

The six-to-eight-week timeline means Green will likely miss the beginning of the regular season. In his absence, the Bengals will need to rely on Tyler Boyd, John Ross, Cody Core, and Alex Erickson, among others. Ross is currently nursing a hamstring injury.

The Bengals will open the season on the road against the Seattle Seahawks before returning home to face the San Francisco 49ers and then visiting the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers.
