Free-agent running back Alfred Morris has agreed to return to the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year contract, according to Cowboys.com's Nick Eatman.

The veteran back will travel to Dallas' training camp in Oxnard, Calif., on Monday night to ink the deal.

Morris previously spent the 2016 and 2017 campaigns with the Cowboys. During that time, he rushed for 790 yards and three touchdowns while primarily playing as a backup to Ezekiel Elliott, who's currently holding out from training camp in pursuit of a contract extension.

With Elliott suspended for six games during the 2017 season, Morris took over the lead role in Dallas and racked up 430 yards and one touchdown on 99 carries.

The 30-year-old produced nearly 2,900 yards and 20 touchdowns in his first two seasons in the NFL with the Washington Redskins. He spent 2018 with the San Francisco 49ers, rushing for 428 yards and two scores across 12 games.

Morris' experience in the Cowboys' system was likely a factor in his signing.

With Elliott away, Dallas' backfield contains rookies Tony Pollard and Mike Weber, four-year veteran Darius Jackson, and fullback Jamize Olawale.

Jackson, who has only six career carries, has been playing with the Cowboys' first-team offense at the start of camp.
