Report: A.J. Green's Week 1 status in question after 2nd opinion on ankle
A second opinion on A.J. Green's injured ankle confirmed the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver will miss the next several weeks, while his status for Week 1 of the regular season is up in the air, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported.
The Bengals plan on waiting a few weeks to see how their star receiver's ankle heals before determining his status for the opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 8, Rapoport added.
Though major surgery won't be required, the 30-year-old underwent a minor procedure Tuesday to clean his ankle out, sources told Rapoport, though it doesn't affect his projected timeline.
Green reportedly suffered torn ligaments in his left ankle during Saturday's practice and was later seen leaving the facility on crutches. Initial reports indicated a six-to-eight week timetable for recovery.
In Green's absence, Cincinnati must rely on Tyler Boyd, John Ross, Cody Core, and Alex Erickson, among others. Ross is currently nursing a hamstring injury.
