Pro Football HOF will increase induction candidates to 20 next year
The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced Friday that to honor the NFL's 100th season, the number of candidates for induction will increase to 20 next year.
This group will include five players from the modern era (retired for fewer than 25 seasons), 10 seniors (retired for more than 25 seasons), three contributors (an individual other than a player or coach), and two coaches.
The resolution was passed for the class of 2020 election cycle only. Since 2010, just six or seven candidates have been inducted annually.
Five modern-era players will be elected by the Hall's Selection Committee before Super Bowl LIV, while the other 15 would be voted on as one bloc, not individually, by a 25-member committee that will include Hall of Famers, media members, historians, and industry experts.
The Centennial Class will be formally inducted in September 2020.
