Report: Josh Gordon files for reinstatement
New England Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon has filed for reinstatement to the NFL, Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk reports.
Gordon returned to the Reserve/Commissioner Suspended list on Dec. 20 for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement under the substance abuse policy.
The 28-year-old's status has been up in the air all offseason. The NFL said on June 19 that it had no update on when Gordon's ban may be reviewed.
"We don't have anything to do with Josh Gordon," Patriots head coach Bill Belichick told reporters on Thursday at training camp, according to Deyscha Smith of Boston.com. "He's suspended. You need to talk to the league. We have no control over Josh Gordon."
The Patriots acquired Gordon from the Cleveland Browns early last season. He posted 40 receptions for 720 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games before landing back on the suspended list.
Gordon's past issues with substance abuse kept him off the field for 43 contests in a 48-game stretch when he was with the Browns.
He signed his restricted free-agent tender that's worth $2.025 million in April.
