Jay Gruden dismissed rumblings Saturday that the Washington Redskins could end Trent Williams' holdout by trading him.

"I would seriously doubt that," the head coach said, according to John Keim of ESPN.

A report Wednesday claimed the Redskins were discussing the possibility of trading their star left tackle. Williams hasn't attended team activities all summer. His discontent reportedly stems from the way the Redskins handled a medical situation of his. Williams had a growth on his head, initially feared to be malignant, removed in the spring.

Gruden acknowledged he isn't sure how the Redskins can appease Williams, but said he's still "very optimistic" the holdout will end amicably.

Williams has made seven Pro Bowls since entering the league as the No. 4 overall pick of the Redskins in 2010. He has two years remaining on the five-year, $68-million deal he signed in 2015 and is also believed to be seeking a new contract.
