Josh Rosen could be building momentum in the Miami Dolphins' quarterback competition, which head coach Brian Flores said Saturday remains open.

"I think he's made some improvement, really across the board," Flores told reporters, according to Jelani Scott of NFL.com. "There's things that a lot of people don't see. Better footwork, mechanics in the pocket, decision-making. A lot of times people, all they see is the touchdown pass; they don't see the checkdown that's a positive play for the team. I think he's improved in those areas and I think those are the little things that go a long way at that position."

Rosen entered training camp in a duel with veteran journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job. Flores declared Fitzpatrick the leader over Rosen early on.

Miami sent a second-round pick to the Arizona Cardinals during the NFL draft to acquire Rosen, who struggled through his rookie campaign after being selected 10th overall a year ago.

"He's very talented, has a big arm, is smart, communicates well," Flores said, according to Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. "But again, it's hard to not mention consistency in this environment."

The Dolphins will play their first of four preseason games Thursday against the Atlanta Falcons.
