The Houston Texans could be without wide receiver Keke Coutee for a while after he suffered an ankle injury in their preseason opener.

"No, I don't expect either one of them to be back soon relative to what soon means," head coach Bill O'Brien said Saturday about Coutee and backup quarterback AJ McCarron, who's dealing with a thumb injury, according to the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson.

"Like tomorrow? No. A week from now? Probably not. We'll just keep playing it by ear. I don't put out an injury report during this time of year. When we have to do that, we'll do that."

Coutee left the exhibition tilt after getting rolled up under a Green Bay Packers defender. He was carted to the locker room but a report indicated the second-year wideout avoided a major injury.

Hamstring ailments kept Coutee out of the lineup for all but six games during his rookie year, in which he caught 28 passes for 287 yards and one touchdown. If healthy, he'll likely serve as the Texans' primary slot receiver in 2019.
