Bears waive Fry, going with Pineiro as kicker 'for right now'
The Chicago Bears have waived Elliott Fry, leaving Eddy Pineiro as the only remaining kicker on the roster, the team announced Sunday.
Chicago could still bring in more competition at kicker but head coach Matt Nagy said "for right now, we feel good where (Pineiro's) at," according to team writer Larry Mayer.
Fry and Pineiro were involved in an offseason-long search for a new kicker following the release of Cody Parkey. Chicago had eight kickers during rookie minicamp in July and eventually whittled down the group for training camp.
In the Bears' first exhibition game, Fry hit a 43-yard kick, but he missed his lone attempt against the New York Giants on Friday. Meanwhile, Pineiro has gone 3-for-4 on field goals in the preseason.
The Bears attempted to acquire former Baltimore Ravens kicker Kaare Vedvik prior to his trade to the Minnesota Vikings but were outbid by their NFC North rivals, a source told Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune.
