Report: Redskins looking to trade Doctson before season opener
The Washington Redskins are believed to be done with former first-round receiver Josh Doctson and would reportedly like to trade him before the start of the regular season, a source told Ben Standig of The Athletic.
The Redskins didn't take up the fifth-year option in Doctson's contract, meaning 2019 will be the final season of his rookie contract.
The 22nd overall pick of the 2016 draft has missed 15 games due to injury in his career and has caught just over half of his targets during the past two seasons. He had 532 yards and two touchdowns in 2018 and was expected to be in line for a starting job this season.
However, Doctson is apparently behind at least Paul Richardson, Trey Quinn, and training camp rookie standout Terry McLaurin in the Redskins' receiver pecking order, according to JP Finlay of NBC Sports.
.@JPFinlayNBCS tells us that the #Redskins have been trying to trade Josh Doctson for the last two years. Says Richardson, Quinn, McLaurin and maybe even Cam Sims are all ahead of him on the depth chart. "It wouldn't shock me if he gets released."
