Rob Gronkowski won't completely rule out an NFL comeback, but a return to the field apparently isn't likely anytime soon.

"Physically, I can do it. Mentally, desire-wise, I can't." Gronkowski said at a CBD Medic press conference in New York City, according to MMQB's Albert Breer.

The former New England Patriots tight end suffered through numerous injuries during his NFL career. He did, however, note his feelings could change if he improves.

"That'll be the time. It may be never. But you know me ... " he said, laughing.

"I want to be clear to my fans. I needed to recover," he added, per Sports Insider's Scott Davis. "I was not in a good place. Football was bringing me down ... I am very satisfied with where I am in life now."

Gronkowski's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said in March he wouldn't be surprised if the tight end returns to football at some point.

The 30-year-old retired nearly two months after New England's Super Bowl LIII win and nine seasons with the franchise.
