Raiders release LB Brandon Marshall

The Oakland Raiders have released linebacker Brandon Marshall after just five months with the team, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Marshall confirmed the move on Twitter.

The 29-year-old signed a one-year, $4.1-million contract with Oakland in March and was expected to start at middle linebacker.

Marshall is best known for his six-year tenure with the Denver Broncos, including a championship win in Super Bowl 50.

The veteran missed five games in 2018 with a knee injury and was working his way back to full health this summer. He recorded 42 tackles in 11 games (seven starts) for the Broncos last season.

Following Marshall's release, the Raiders will likely start Vontaze Burfict and Tahir Whitehead at linebacker. Marquel Lee, Kyle Wilber, and Nicholas Morrow will compete for the third spot.
