One NFL team has been in preliminary talks with the Los Angeles Chargers in an attempt to vet out a potential trade for disgruntled running back Melvin Gordon, a source told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

The Chargers are seeking either a 2020 first-round pick, or a 2020 fifth-rounder and 2021 first-round pick for Gordon, according to Anderson. However, a trade for the running back is unlikely to come to fruition, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Los Angeles gave the two-time Pro Bowler permission to seek a trade last week and said they won't re-engage in extension talks until after the season.

General manager Tom Telesco said Gordon's only option for suiting up with the Chargers this season is to play under his fifth-year option, which is worth $5.6 million.

The Chargers reportedly offered Gordon an extension that would pay him roughly $10 million per season, however, he is apparently seeking a deal worth $13 million annually.

The team that acquires Gordon will also likely have to secure a new deal with the former first-round draft pick.
