Indianapolis Colts receiver Devin Funchess will be placed on injured reserve after the offseason acquisition underwent surgery to repair a clavicle, the club announced Monday.

Funchess suffered the injury during the Colts' season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Head coach Frank Reich said the injury is "definitely not season-ending." NFL rules state a player designated to the IR can return to team practices after six weeks and return to game action after eight weeks.

"We really love Devin," said Reich. "Just felt like there was a growing chemistry between he and Jacoby (Brissett) - Jacoby really likes throwing him the ball; he's a big, strong guy."

Funchess caught three passes for 32 yards in the loss. He nearly came down with what would have been the game-winning touchdown but landed on his shoulder out of bounds, which caused the injury.

Reich said he plans to go with a committee approach behind Pro Bowl No. 1 receiver T.Y. Hilton, with youngsters Chester Rogers, Deon Cain, Parris Campbell, and Zach Pascal getting more reps while Funchess remains sidelined.
