Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden announced Wednesday that rookie safety Johnathan Abram will miss the remainder of the 2019 campaign with a shoulder injury, according to Myles Simmons of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The news confirms Tuesday's reports that Abram was potentially headed to the injured reserve. He's expected to undergo surgery shortly.

It's unknown exactly when the first-year defensive back suffered the injury during Monday's win over the Denver Broncos. He played in 48 of Oakland's 62 defensive snaps in his NFL debut, totaling five tackles.

The Raiders selected Abram out of Mississippi State with the final of their three first-round selections -No. 27 overall - in April's draft.
