When using ubuntu software updater, sometimes I am asked for password and other times I am not

Ubuntu 18.04, Cinnamon, Firefox.
Maybe a security issue or not.
When I use the Ubuntu software updater, sometimes I am prompted for a password to continue and other times I am not.
I dont thing it depends on the type of updates either, seems pretty sporadic.
Any reason why this is?
