Users have their own root directory?

"Currently, whenever someone logs into the Linux VM, they share the same root directory with everyone else. Is it possible for everyone to have their own root directory? This would allow multiple people to access the same file at the same time since each VM would have its own copy. Please let me know if you know of any solutions."
