Baker Mayfield clapped back at former NFL coach Rex Ryan, who called the Cleveland Browns quarterback "overrated as hell" after Week 3.

"It's whatever," Mayfield said Wednesday, courtesy of Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot. "In the wise words of (Browns coach) Freddie Kitchens, 'If you don't wear orange and brown, you don't matter.' And Rex Ryan doesn't have any colors right now for a reason, so it's OK."

Ryan delivered a scathing assessment of the former No. 1 overall pick Monday morning, hours after a struggling Mayfield was unable to lead Cleveland to a come-from-behind win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Despite finishing his rookie campaign on a torrid stretch, Mayfield hasn't been able to find his groove in 2019. He's thrown three touchdowns against five interceptions, while his early-season inaccuracies and propensity to bail prematurely from the pocket have been concerning.

Ryan has worked as an ESPN analyst since 2017. He served as head coach for the New York Jets from 2009-14, leading Gang Green to a pair of AFC Championship Game berths, and for the Buffalo Bills from 2015-16.
