Strange Command Line Behavior

Hi,

I'm new to Linux and to these forums as well. I'm using the Chrome Linux (beta) which I believe is Debian 9? The command line is exhibiting strange behavior. I've reinstalled it three times, and it seems I am not allowed to use /ls or /dir to see the base directory tree without first /cd'ing to a directory (such as /home or /var) and cd'ing back to the /$ command line. Once I have done this, /ls and /dir print the base directory as they should from then on.

Is this a feature, or a bug?latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=lBecGK9kD-I:WiGkqCSQD8o:F7zBnMy latest?i=lBecGK9kD-I:WiGkqCSQD8o:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=lBecGK9kD-I:WiGkqCSQD8o:gIN9vFwlBecGK9kD-I
