Newton's message to doubters: 'I'm hurt, not dead'
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton wants to remind everyone that he will eventually return to the team.
The injured Newton posted a message of support Wednesday for backup Kyle Allen while offering a reminder to those who have written him off as Carolina's starter.
"I really appreciate the love, support, and well wishes," wrote Newton in his signature font on Instagram. "But ... I'm hurt, not dead."

Newton is reportedly battling a Lisfranc injury that could sideline him for an extended period of time.
The former NFL MVP will miss his second straight game with the foot injury Sunday against the Houston Texans, and head coach Ron Rivera said on Monday that "there's no exact timetable for (Newton's) return."
Newton completed just 56.2% of his passes and threw zero touchdowns to one interception through the team's first two games. The usually dynamic runner also looked a shell of his former self in the ground game, rushing for minus-two yards on only five carries.
Meanwhile, Allen lit up the Arizona Cardinals in his first start of the season. The second-year quarterback went 19 of 26 for 261 yards and four touchdowns to zero interceptions in the 38-20 win.
