by thirdm from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4R7TB)
So now that rms isn't on the FSF board he can be nominated for this award, right?

Well, unless he's on the award committee.
Some might like this idea whatever they think of the nature of his ousting.
Some, like me, might dislike how it all went down and want to send a message. So far FSF has put forward a neutral public stance, simply giving a short press release saying they'd accepted his resignation. If we make it clear we won't have him denounced by nominating him or ordering the new Free as in Freedom biography, that might keep in line any forces within or without who might otherwise take this movement in a direction not reflective of the whole community or who might use their power again in the future to try to sideline some other person they don't find socially acceptable.

| Eligibility Only individuals are eligible for nomination for this award (not projects). Individuals who describe their projects as "open" instead of "free" are eligible nonetheless, provided the software is in fact free. Previous winners (full list) are not eligible for nomination, but renomination of other previous nominees is encouraged. Current FSF staff and board members, as well as award committee members, are not eligible. |
