How to decrypt recovered files from ~/.Private
by rjo98 from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4RCNH)
Via another thread on here, some folks were able to help me recover deleted files from an encrypted via eCryptfs home folder to an external drive, as they pointed out the files were actually here I needed.
~/.Private - underlying directory containing encrypted data
Based on file size, I know only a couple hundred of the thousands of recovered files could potentially be the ones they need.
Once I separate out the files to the likely candidates, since the machine that encrypted them to begin with is fully functional, is there a command i can run from that against the likely files to just in-place decrypt them? Then they can look through that to see if the data they need is there.
