Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is being evaluated by medical staff after blocking a shot Saturday in the club's preseason finale versus the Buffalo Sabres, head coach Mike Sullivan announced.

Crosby left the game in the first period and didn't return. Penguins forward Bryan Rust is also being evaluated after blocking a shot himself.

Sullivan said the team will probably have more definitive answers on the matter on Sunday morning.

Crosby was spotted leaving the arena with a slight limp but had no walking boot or crutches, according to Seth Rorabaugh of the Tribune-Review.

Pittsburgh opens its regular season Thursday versus the Sabres. Crosby is entering his 15th NHL season and was runner-up for the Hart Trophy in 2018-19 after posting his sixth 100-point campaign.
