Zimmer believes Cousins can be better: 'You just gotta pull the trigger'
A day after Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl receiver Adam Thielen was vocal about his team's inability to throw the ball, head coach Mike Zimmer discussed his quarterback's play when addressing the media.
"I think there were some times where he might've gotten rid of it a bit too soon," said Zimmer when asked about Cousins' lack of aggression in the passing game. "There's times you just gotta pull the trigger and you just gotta believe it, that you're gonna make the throw."
Despite the comments, Zimmer bristled when one reporter characterized his comments about his $84-million man as calling the QB "gun shy."
The Vikings have had a disappointing start to the season through the air, putting up less yardage (169.0 yards per game) than every team but the winless New York Jets.
This season, Cousins has thrown just three touchdowns against a pair of interceptions. He ranks 17th in completion percentage (64.6), 25th in passing yards (735), 15th in yards per attempt (7.4), and 22nd in passer rating (88.6).
Cousins, alongside Thielen and wideout Stefon Diggs - who will all cost the Vikings $229 million collectively over the next five years - will look to get on track in a Week 5 matchup against the New York Giants at the Meadowlands.
