lubuntu screen resolution advent 4211-c netbook

I've just installed lubuntu on an old netbook for a friend. Boots up fine but the screen resolution is very low 800x600. In the monitor configuration it doesn't ofer any other resolutions. Not used any ubuntu based systems for a long time so not sure what i can do about this. Any suggestions?

Hardware: advent 4211-c netbook
System: lubuntu-16.04.3-desktop-i386
