Tom Coughlin, the executive vice president of football operations for the Jacksonville Jaguars, said the team traded star corner Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams because it was time to "move on."

Jacksonville dealt the two-time Pro Bowler and 2017 All-Pro to Los Angeles on Tuesday for a first-round draft pick in each of the next two drafts and a 2021 fourth-round pick.

"Given the situation with Jalen, we made this decision based on what we thought is in the best interest of the Jacksonville Jaguars, for this season and well into the future," Coughlin said in a statement Wednesday.

"We feel the trade that we struck with the Rams gives us great value for the next two drafts, and we remain very confident that our team today will compete this season for a division title. Jalen was a productive player, but the time came to move on and we wish him and his family the best in Los Angeles."

Ramsey requested a trade out of Jacksonville in mid-September, but owner Shad Khan held a heart-to-heart conversation with the 24-year-old corner in hopes he would play in Week 6. Nonetheless, Ramsey remained sidelined for Sunday's loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Khan also released a statement Wednesday, crediting his staff and team for how they dealt with the distraction.

"The Jacksonville Jaguars are doing just fine today," Khan said. "I give kudos to our football staff for not only managing this matter extremely well but giving our team and fans a lot to look forward to in years to come. Credit also goes to our players for their professional approach throughout this situation. It did not go unnoticed."
