Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER launches October 29

Pretty much everyone agrees: Nvidia's Super cards are super good. They're also super expensive. If you're looking for a video card refresh and don't need ray tracing, though, Nvidia's latest Super cards might suit you. The rumored GeForce GTX 1660 Super will launch on October 29, Nvidia has confirmed to VideoCardz.com.

In terms of what it offers, it sounds a lot like the other Super cards. The card will use the same TU116-300 GPU seen in the GTX 1660 and 1660 Ti. It also has the same number of cores and the same base and boosts clocks at the standard GTX 1660. That's 1408 CUDA Cores, and base and boost clocks of 1530 MHz and 1785 respectively.

The real power-up comes from memory. The 1660 Super will move from 6GB of GDDR5 to 6 GB of GDDR6, which boosts the memory speed from 8 Gbps to 14 Gbps; that's even faster than the 12 Gbps GDDR6 in the 1660 Ti. The memory bandwidth also jumps from 192 GB/s in the 1660 and 288 GB/s in the 1660 Ti up to 336 GB/s in the 1660 Super.

What should really tickle anyone shopping for a mid-range card, though, is that this huge boost will cost you just a few dollars more than the base 1660. The GTX 1660 Super will sell for $229. That's just $10 more than the base 1660 and $50 less than the 1660 Ti. The only advantage the Ti has is CUDA cores, so you're looking at a card with almost as much processing power as the Ti but with much faster memory than the base model, but with a very appealing price.
