Internal microphone reproducing white noise (The simple noisy things)
by Scribtor from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4T6ZM)
I am nearly finished getting my first-ever Slackware OS up and running 100%, when I encountered that my microphone is playing the tune of Final Five Cylons Earth-homing beacon, and not my beautiful scratching voice.
Seriously.
I setup a dual-boot to enjoy the best of both worlds, but found myself rather enjoying only the linux side, since there is little to nothing to be enjoyed on a low-end laptop that can't run (missing drivers) anything but the latest M$ win10.
I'm having trouble trying to setup audio recording, and for the love of me, I can't get it to work, at least not to a satisfactory level.
I tested the hardware on win10, and there it works flawlessly, without distortion, white noise, and with the mic boost down to 0db.
(100% OS issue, not necessarily strictly related to slackware, but still)
There are no additional sound packages installed on the system, other than the default that arrived with a -current build from a couple of months ago, and a couple of slackpkg procedures that came afterwards.
Tried dabbling with alsamixer & pavucontrol but to no avail...Best I was able to produce was a clean, very quiet reproduction, albeit the input was me howling at the laptop (didn't write down the exact configuration of audio to even get to that step)
Attached is a bunch of listing commands and cat's to view, or try to view, some files. Hope they help
Any idea is a good one!
