If you mod your PC games at all, there's a chance you've used ReShade at some point to add in features or change the look of your game. Now, it seems Nvidia is planning to implement ReShade at a driver level and make it accessible through its GeForce Experience overlay.

According to VideoCardz, this functionality is coming next week alongside the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super. The ReShade tool is popular with game modders. Depending on the game, ReShade can do anything from simply add a visual filter to a game or add complex features like anti-aliasing and screen-space ambient occlusion. VideoCardz says that Nvidia will let users "tap into hundreds of filters" through the integration.

This could be very cool, but we're missing some key information. The ReShade project is known for its flexibility, but that flexibility has gotten players of popular games like ir?t=techreport09-20&l=alb&o=1&a=B0785RS and WarFrame banned from their official servers. ReShade goes deep enough that it looks like it could be enabling cheaters to some anti-cheat software. Will Nvidia's implementation be as flexible? For example, will gamers be able to import third-party shaders? Will the filters be simple filters, or will they still be able to add missing features? Will Nvidia take measures to block Project ReShade from working in games?

We'll have to wait until Nvidia officially unveils its implementation. The move could put the idea of re-shading a game in front of countless gamers who might not have ever modded a game. If poorly implemented, though, Nvidia's ReShade could also put off countless gamers who suddenly can't mod their favorite games.
