Report: Lions discussed potential Freeman deal with Falcons
With starting running back Kerryon Johnson on injured reserve with a knee injury, the Detroit Lions tried to boost their backfield before the trade deadline.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Detroit asked the Atlanta Falcons about the availability of Devonta Freeman. Both sides discussed a potential deal at length, but the Falcons ultimately decided not to trade their running back.
The 27-year-old has struggled this season thus far, with most of his contribution coming through the passing game. He has 97 carries for 333 yards and no touchdowns but has caught 35 passes for 252 yards and three scores.
In Week 8 against the New York Giants, four Lions running backs combined for 62 yards, with undrafted Tra Carson leading the group with 12 carries for 34 yards.
Besides Johnson (92), sixth-round rookie Ty Johnson leads Detroit in rushing attempts in 2019 with 30.
