Williams not practicing, Redskins will reportedly shop OT in offseason
After holding onto Trent Williams during Tuesday's trade deadline, the Washington Redskins plan to shop the star left tackle in the coming offseason, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported.
The Redskins insisted for months that they wouldn't deal the disgruntled seven-time Pro Bowler, who's been holding out for the entire season. However, they apparently reversed course this week and were open to trading him before the deadline.
Williams ended his lengthy holdout this week and passed his physical, according to Rapoport. However, he was absent from Wednesday's practice, per ESPN's John Keim.
It was previously reported that Williams doesn't intend to play this season.
The Redskins were looking for a first-round pick in exchange for Williams, but they were only offered a second-rounder, which they declined, according to Rapoport. The Cleveland Browns reportedly engaged in discussions for the 31-year-old but were unwilling to meet Washington's demands.
By ending his holdout, Williams prevented his contract from tolling and he's set to earn $5.82 million in remaining salary this year. However, it's unclear how his apparent plan to not play would affect his contract status.
The left tackle is under contract for one more year beyond this season. He's set to earn $12.5 million in 2020.
