Dalton's agent tried to explore trade after benching
Following their eighth loss in as many games, the Cincinnati Bengals announced Tuesday they are benching quarterback Andy Dalton for rookie Ryan Finley - a decision that apparently didn't sit well with the veteran.
Dalton's agent tried to find a trade for the quarterback before Tuesday's deadline, according to Laurel Pfahler of The Athletic.
The 32-year-old said he wished the team had made its decision earlier in order to give his camp the opportunity to explore a possible move.
"There just wasn't enough time to do that," Dalton told Pfahler.
With Dalton still in Cincinnati following the trade deadline, he remains committed to the Bengals amid their first 0-8 campaign since 2008.
"I don't agree with the decision but I'm going to do everything I can to help the team," he said, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic.
Dalton leads the league in pass attempts (338) and completions (204) through eight games this year, posting 2,252 yards, nine touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Finley, a fourth-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, is set to make his first NFL start in Week 10 when the Bengals face the Baltimore Ravens following Cincinnati's bye week.
