The Patriots recently traded a second-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons for Mohamed Sanu, an addition that appeared to be a corresponding move to the team's future release of Gordon.

The seven-year veteran was put on injured reserve with a knee injury but will be medically cleared in about a week, sources close to Gordon told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

The embattled wideout's turbulent time in New England comes to an end after off-field issues and injuries derailed both his seasons with the team.

Gordon has been open about the mental health issues that forced him to miss all but 11 games in the three years before he joined the Patriots, but there is no indication those issues played a part in the two sides parting ways now.

The Baylor product finishes his Patriots career with 1,007 yards and four touchdowns on 60 receptions in 17 games.
