Nagy tells Bears to take inspiration from Nationals' World Series win
The Chicago Bears surely did not expect to be sitting in last place in the NFC North with a 3-4 record, but that's the reality of their season so far.
In the midst of this disappointment, head coach Matt Nagy found inspiration in 2019 World Series champions the Washington Nationals, he told reporters Thursday.
The Nationals, like the Bears, started slow. Washington came out of the gate with an ugly 19-31 record before turning things around, getting into the wild-card game, and eventually winning the title Wednesday night. Nagy said he showed the Bears a PowerPoint presentation about the Nationals on Thursday and hopes that illustrating the parallels between the two squads will help his football team bounce back in the second half of the season.
"People that stick together, people that get tighter through adversity, people that never quit, people that say 'so what, now what?' ... But then they do it," Nagy said about the Nationals.
He added, "How do you not show that to your guys and let them pull from that? ... That should be something that all of us can learn from in the sports world."
While Chicago's defense continues to be a menacing unit, second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has not taken the next step. He's putting up 182 yards per game through the air with five touchdowns and four turnovers in six games.
Up next for the underachieving Bears is a date with the Philadelphia Eagles, who sent them home from the playoffs last year thanks to the infamous double-doink.
