Washington Redskins interim head coach Bill Callahan announced Friday that rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins will start Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson.

Veteran Colt McCoy will reportedly back up Haskins, as Case Keenum remains in the concussion protocol.

The Week 9 tilt will be the first start of Haskins' career. His NFL debut came after Keenum was benched in a Week 4 loss to the New York Giants. He struggled in that appearance, throwing three interceptions and taking two sacks.

Washington turned to McCoy as its starter the following week instead of giving Haskins his first career start. Head coach Jay Gruden was fired days later, and Callahan said he didn't feel the rookie was ready to take the reigns upon being hired.

The Redskins selected Haskins No. 15 overall in April's draft. It remains to be seen whether he'll stick in the lineup once Keenum is healthy enough to return.
