Mounting NFS in KDE correctly / Ways to mount NFS

Hello all!

Not sure if anyone here knows how to do this at all and I guess this may or may not contain multiple problems here. But let me explain.

For a long time now I've been looking for a way to properly mount an NFS share on another system on my main linux box (running debian 10.1, 64 bit, kde plasma, amd ryzen 5). I'm aware of 4 methods of doing this but every one of them has problems. Here's a list;

1. Modify /etc/fstab
This first option is simply to open and edit /etc/fstab and then mount the NFS share in that file. Only problem is if the NFS share dosen't exist the system will not boot and really since we are in 2019 and not 1999 manually hard-coding /etc/fstab is surely a bad option?

2. Just use KDE
What I mean by this is just using KDEs built-in filemanager dolphin. If you look at a dolphin window you'll see a location bar and I can type "nfs://<my nfs devices' ip address>/export/abcd" I can see the files on the NFS share on the remote device. But non kde programs do not work with this method and KDE annoyingly *copies* the files instead of being able to use them directly. This method might be ok for a text file but if you are talking about a 2GB video file then this isn't a good option.

3. Use autofs
This is the method I'm using now and the one I am trying to replace. It works but if for some reason the nfs share isn't avaliable at boot it can cause the system (not the nfs share the computer I'm connecting to it) to become slow and unresponsive and can generally mess up KDE.

4. Use systemd
I know some people do not like systemd but this is an option I've looked into. But it appears that it will not work for KDE because using systemd to mount an nfs share automatically will only work for a command-line only install; since systemd and nfs automounting typically will use networkmanager and since networkmanager only connects the devices once KDE has started systemd mounts too early in the boot process and so it never gets that far - even if you tell it to wait until the network has connected.

Those are the only 4 methods I know of how to mount an NFS share. Does anyone else have any more ideas?

Thanks
